Phenol, which is also referred to as carbolic acid, Phenylic acid, benzophenol, hydroxybenzo and mono- hydroxy benzene, is used to produce a wide variety of chemical intermediates, including phenolic resins, bisphenol A, caprolactam, alkyl phenols, adipic acid, plasticizers, and others.
